What is Relay For Life?
Relay For Life is the largest cancer fundraising initiative in the word, with events taking place across 29 countries each year to celebrate cancer survivors, to remember loved ones lost to the disease and to raise funds so less people lose their lives to cancer.
Relay For Life is a celebration of solidarity and helps to raise awareness of the services provided by the Irish Cancer Society locally and nationally. Regional events take place all across Ireland and typically take place over 24 hours.
Teams join together to walk a Relay track through the day and night. Members of teams take it in turns to walk a designated distance or time, with someone from the team being on the move at all times. When not walking, members of the teams, and their friends, families and colleagues are free to socialise and enjoy live entertainment.
The event opens with a Survivors lap, where we celebrate cancer survivorship.
There is also a Candle of Hope ceremony, where thousands of candle bags that have been personalised with messages of hope and remembrance are lit during a moving ceremony.
What's happening at The National Event?
The Celebrate and Remember event in the Aviva Stadium will be a shortened version of the 24 hour event taking place over 4 hours from 6pm - 10pm. The event will showcase the magic of Relay For Life and what makes this event so special around the globe.
Celebrate and Remember will feature some very special guests including our Relay For Life Ambassador Shane Filan, with music from Emma Power and Newstalk MC Andrea Gilligan.
