"Why I Relay" - Eva Law

Over the last three years I have had the privilege of attending many charity events across Co Wexford but nothing has stuck with me like Relay for Life Wexford. My name is Eva and I work for the Wexford Volunteer Centre.

At the end of 2021, a few months into my role, I met Gay and Jayne from Relay for Life Wexford. I spent nearly two hours with them listening to the Relay story and what they had achieved since the beginning in 2016. I was fascinated by Relay and could see the passion from Gay and Jayne to make Relay for Life Wexford even more memorable after coming back to an in person event from Covid.

Since that first meeting in 2021, I have worked with the Relay team to recruit Volunteers to help out at the event. We have also had the pleasure of having the Relay team use the Volunteer Centre for the Team Registration Day.

I have went to the Relay for Life event for the last two years, each time I have went I have been blown away. The atmosphere, the support, the sense of community is like no other. Watching team members arm in arm doing the Relay around the candle of hope is so heart warming.

When I was approached this year to join the Relay for Life committee as the Volunteer Coordinator I was delighted. I instantly thought of that first meeting with Gay and Jayne, the passion and feeling I felt from them during that meeting, and I just knew that this is something I wanted to be apart of.

I look forward to Relay for Life Wexford 2024! I can’t wait to meet all the Volunteers and to be part of another memorable year.
