My brother Gerald was 58 years old when cancer invaded his life. He went to the gp with abdominal pain a week later he woke up in ICU following surgery to be told he had stage 4 colorectal cancer. He had a bowel resection with stoma formation, liver and lung metastasis. Our whole world collapsed. How could this happen to Gerald out of all of us?? He was fit and healthy always looked after himself had regular bloods and check ups done but it just wasn’t enough 😔. Cancer does not discriminate, it doesn’t care about age, sex, gender or colour. It doesn’t care if you have looked after yourself or not. We watched Gerald fade away as cancer took hold of him. For 18 months he battled, by God he battled to live but he was doomed from the start. He got no chance to fight……. Cancer had taken hold of his body without warning him and by the time it was found it was too late. This is Gerald’s story like so many others. He deserved a chance to try to beat it. That’s why early detection is crucial in saving lives. I truly believe that if the screening age for bowel cancer was lowered to 50 or even 55 it would save so many lives and prevent other families like mine going through this heartbreaking journey. Every donation will help get somebit closer to helping people beat this horrendous disease. Thanks to all my amazing sponsors for donating 🥰
